install carpet basement::And yet a finished basement is not really finished until carpet has been laid.A basement floor is typically solid concrete with no place to drive in carpet nails.
This can leave plenty of doubt in your mind as to how you will secure the carpet to the floor.
The 5 steps below will help you complete your carpet laying project, even if it is on a concrete basement floor.
To each room, add 3 to 4 extra inches to the carpet width and length measurements.
Decide in advance of ordering your carpet cut whether you will want carpet cut in individual pieces for each room, or whether you will want the carpet delivered in one piece which you will cut into individual pieces.
Moisture from floor leaks will seep under your carpet where you will be unable to find or stop the leaks without tearing up the carpet.
The result will be moldy, smelly carpet.
If you find bumps, debris or ridges, you will need to level the bumps and remove any debris.
If left unchanged, these bumps will eventually cause uneven wear in your carpet, even with a thick pad beneath the carpet.
Use a cold chisel to reduce small concrete bumps, edges, or ridges.
Be sure you do not leave sharp edges in the concrete.
Sweep up and remove any debris, using the chisel to loosen compacted dirt or debris.
Spread it into a thin layer, using fan patterns.
As you roll out the carpet and move toward the exit, spread glue onto the path area you left without glue.
With your carpet knife, cut a slit in the carpet in each corner of the room.
The slit should be from the top edge of the carpet to 1 inch above the floor.
With all edges trimmed, shove them under the bottom edge of the wall baseboards, using your carpet tucker.
